Shelby, Dec. 2011

This is me, Shelby, just around the time I was starting my journey to lose 100 pounds in one year. I was smiling but not very happy on the inside.

14 years old and dancing

Here’s me gettin’ my groove on when I was about 14 years old. That spunky has always been inside, now I’m just learning how to bring her back out.

Starting to enjoy having a body that can take me places. Here I am hiking to a wild hot springs, tucked two miles inside a rocky

Beginning to feel good in my skin again.  Here are two silly moments:

My strong heart and robust muscles can get me way back into the woods now! Here’s hubby and I hiking the Jewel Basin area.

Glow in the Dark Shelby

I’m gaining body confidence. I can tell because I get zany ideas like this glow-in-the-dark body paint (Valentine’s 2014 gift to hubby). Tip: be sure to use paint from the adult store. I didn’t and got quite a toxic reaction from all my fun.

Hi Shelby. I am a friend of Greg and Charlotte. I especially appreciate your acknowledgement that diets don’t work until we raise awareness of the stuff we put in our bodies. The movie Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead focuses on the journey of one man that lost 202 pounds in 10 months by exercising and eating whole foods. Entertaining movie you can watch instantly on NetFlix. It has inspired me to get healthy. I am 40 pounds over weight. Not a big deal, right. But at 42 I am on two heart meds, one for cholesterol and one for triglycerides. I don’t like it, AT ALL! Everyone can benefit from eating right and excercise. I believe the movie Forks over Knives delves into the benefits of eating whole foods from a statistical, scientific viewpoint. I wish you the best in your journey. You can do it!

    • Hi Andrew. Thanks for chiming in! I just heard from Charlotte. Sounds like she’s on a similar journey as us. Thanks for the movie tips, too! I’m definately going to check those out. I know what you mean when you talk about health issues. I was pre-diabetic and it scared me. Best of luck to you! I hope you keep checking back at 100poundsin1year for some helpful tips, a little bit of philosophy, and some good reads.

    • Thanks for your encouraging words, Brandy! I’m glad you like the posts. Your question is bang-on, since I’m working on creating my Twitter account this week. Stay tuned for an easy-to-find Twitter link. I’d like to tweet tips each day for getting over the exercise hump. I’m thinking of calling them “Hump Tips.” What do you think of that? Too weird?
